The sapling’s Tale

A sapling stood
In a faraway wood
And he listened
To the elderly trees

They were wise
So disguised
All the frightening words
And they spoke of a land without seas

Where the ground lay too dry
And the birds made no cry
All animals warring
A-howling they ignored the pleas

The sapling climbed
To an age old Pine
And it told the same tale to its young
Of the fear and the dark and the lessons to come

Of the songs that would no longer shine

But the dark marched on a mile at a time
And one day it found that wood
And it pulled at the tree
Till the roots you could see

And it tore out the heart and the good

A sapling stood
In a faraway wood
And he listened
To the elderly trees

They were wise
So disguised
All the frightening words
And they spoke of a land without seas
