Million Women

The gunmetal grey of the sky
Mirroring the steel
The reinforced concrete
And below the streets empty
Save for the men with their voices
And choices
But as the heavens open
They run for cover
The streets washed clean
Rainbow sheens in gutters
Then one step two step
Woman after woman
Girls, children, women
Their footprints
A chorus
Their cries heard
A melody of joy
Kindness, solidarity
Their choices and voices
Lifting the fragile onto their shoulders
Faces upturned
Beaming up
At the beaming down
Marching for me
Marching for you
Rising and marching for all
