Just The Echo

She thinks of those days
Rarely
They used to invade
Hourly

She learned to walk away from the memories
As she walked away from you
The pain just pastels
The scars faded

But the car door slam
Brings her up short
The banging postman
Doesn’t know the fear
He instills
The sky falls
When a child screams
And a breaking glass
Can floor her
Calm to destroyed in seconds

The talk of a cycle is a truth
Pain begetting pain
But your little turn of the wheel
Has been halted
For now
At least
Her truth was heard
Believed
The horror ended

Just the echo left
A pain
Dull
Blessedly no longer sharp
A hope that the dull ache too shall pass
