A Mis-spent youth. Did I have one? I think I may well have, at least I decided I had when I was introduced to @Lilinaz_Evans and the #TwitterYouthFeministArmy.
I spent my formative years doing the things a lot of girls of 14, 15 onwards do (I think). I had boyfriends, I smoked a few cigarettes, I drank sporadically and I went to the odd nightclub with a faked NUS card. OK, I had some fun, I learned a fair few life lessons, but looking back I could have been doing so much more, for myself and for others. I know this now because I see what young women like Lili are achieving. And it’s incredible.
#YouthTwitterFeministArmy (you can read more on this on their blog http://Jellyandlilipop.wordpress.com ) is doing so much, amongst many things they are raising awareness of feminism and equality among a young group of women, new to feminism and looking to understand and learn more. It is inclusive, positive and inspiring. Many women like myself, who are in their 40s, 30s and 20s have been so impressed by the approach that these young women are taking to make their voices-and others, heard.
I encourage you to visit their blog and follow them on Twitter, to hear about their thoughts, their lives, their views and how they are making a positive difference to those women who take the time to find out about #TwitterYouthFeministArmy. They are inspirational and I’m certain that they will continue this positive crusade. I look forward to seeing the results.
Thanks for introducing me to these fantastic young women. I’m having trouble finding you on Twitter btw help appreciated! Like you, I’m so impressed with them. I was raised to believe I was an equal but as an adult I quickly learned not to mention it… to other women. Our generation has been asleep at the wheel, with the ridiculous “I’m not a feminist, I’m just benefiting from other women’s struggles” attitude that’s prevailed among too many of us for too long. Stand up, Sisters. It’s well past time! Love and Peace, With flowers. m
Hi there, I’m on Twitter as @cateleven. Completely agree with your thinking, thanks for the positive comments, Cat.
